Malaysia: Distillation pilot plant for 2G bioethanol

20 December 2010

Together with the local palm oil producer Sime Darby the Japanese company Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (MES)  sets up a pilot plant for second generation (2G) bioethanol in Tennamaram, Malaysia. Based on technology licensed from Inbicon the plant will produce bioethanol from empty fruit bunches from palm oil production, starting from January 2011.

Distillation and rectification unit of the pilot plant have been supplied by Vogelbusch.  Preassembled and (water) tested in Austria, the skid mounted plant was shipped in 2 containers and finally installed on site within only few days.

The project was completed despite the tight schedule to the full satisfaction of the customers, which helped that Vogelbusch is now working on a follow-on order for Mitsui.

Energy efficient technologies

18 March 2009

Greenhouse gas emission savings in ethanol production was the topic of a presentation held by Vogelbusch at the World Biofuels Markets conference in Brussel, Belgium. The minimum GHG reduction targets for biofuels in the EU have been set at 35 percent less than from fossil fuels, gradually rising to 60 percent for new producers after 2017. Cutting process energy consumption plays a key part in modern bioethanol plant design because it is tightly connected to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in production.  Download presentation
