Citric Acid Fermentation

Citric acid technology

Market leader

Vogelbusch has also developed proprietary citric acid production technology. This draws on our profound knowledge of raw materials and processes. A large number of reference projects, spread across four continents, are testimony to our position as the market leading independent supplier of citric acid technology.

Our in-house laboratory fermenters are used to optimise the process for the raw material concerned so as to maximise yields.

Vogelbusch has proprietary spore cultivation apparatus. The microorganism employed is Aspergillus niger.

Vogelbusch air-lift fermenters stand out for their simple design and low energy consumption.

Quality product built to international standards

Our product purification and crystallisation processes are compatible with a wide range of product grades (anhydrous, monohydrate, syrup and sodium citrate) and comply with international quality standards including BP, USP and FCC.

Citric acid is used by the food processing and detergent industries. In the food industry it is used as an acidifier, a pH buffer and — in combination with other materials — a preservative. It can be produced from various starch hydrolysates, cane or beet molasses, and cane sugar.
