Gluconic acid technology

Highly efficient fermentation

Our highly efficient fermentation process for industrial applications was developed in cooperation with Germany’s  Umweltforschungszentrum Leipzig/Halle (UFZ) research institute. It uses Acetobacter methanolicus as the catalyst for the conversion of glucose into gluconic acid. The key advantages of this facultatively methylotrophic microorganism are that:

  • Gluconic acid is a metabolic dead-end product;
  • At high concentrations glucose is not assimilated and consumed for growth, so  product yields are high;
  • The catalyst can be produced from methanol — a cheap raw material.

Reliable product processing

Well tried Vogelbusch product purification, concentration and crystallisation technology ensures optimum quality.

Due to its unusual properties gluconic acid has many different industrial applications. For instance, its low corrosiveness enables it to form water soluble compounds with a variety of metal ions, and it retards concrete setting. Gluconic acid is made from glucose.
