Thermal integrationEnergy savings through waste heat recyclingThermal integration enables waste heat from thermal processes to be used by other process units. For instance, an evaporator can run on waste heat from a distillation unit or DDGS dryer, while the condensation from the dehydrated alcohol vapour in a molecular sieve can provide the heat for mash preheating. Energy savings can also be achieved by returning still wash to the process so as to re-use heat and water. Vogelbusch takes a variety of approaches to thermal integration, according to the properties of the raw materials used, the planned investment costs and local energy costs. Process optimisation of this sort cuts operating costs and improves plant greenhouse gas performance.
